So, what is scouts? How old do you have to be? How do you join?
The Scout movement is the world's largest youth organisation. Scouts programs are run around broad age groups and focus on learning by doing to develop and nuture young people. Scouts focuses on the social, physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual development of young people, and as young people progress through scouting they are encouraged to become increasingly self-governing, taking on more responsibility for their own development. Scouting involves doing things outdoors, learning new things, visiting new places, working with others, and most of all, having fun and feeling a sense of achievement for what you do. Get involved, we'd love to see you!
There are five successive age groups in scouting:
JOEYS - Is for 6 to 8 year olds
CUBS - Is for 8 to 11 year olds
SCOUTS - Is for 11 to 14 year olds
VENTURERS - Is for 14 to 18 year olds
ROVERS - Is for 18 years and older
Anyone interested in trying out scouting is welcome to come along for a couple of weeks and see if they like it, for no charge.
